The vast majority of Edblad’s jewellery is made of 316L stainless steel, also known as surgical steel. The “L” in 316L stands for low carbon, which makes the steel resistant to corrosion, rust and oxidation during everyday use. Edblad’s stainless steel jewellery complies with the EU directives according to the REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006.

There are different grades of stainless steel, where Edblad uses the high-quality 316L instead of 304L, which is a more common grade used for jewellery. Thanks to this high-quality steel, Edblad’s jewellery is known for its durability, long-lasting quality and water resistance. You can work out, sweat, shower and swim wearing them without worrying about the colour fading or disappearing, as long as you make sure to dry them afterwards. Over 80% of Edblad’s products are made from partially recycled steel, and the material is reused again in the production process.

To achieve the gold colour in our jewellery, Edblad uses 2–3 microns (μm) of 14K gold through PVD plating. There are several types of plating, but PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition, also referred to as ion plating or IP plating) gives the most superior result. PVD is also the most environmentally friendly plating process, as it generates minimal waste. This plating technique creates a water-resistant surface, making Edblad’s jewellery highly resistant to water, salt, perfume and everyday wear.

Our silver jewellery is made of 925 sterling silver, a precious metal that increases in value over time. Silver is a softer material than stainless steel, which allows unique design possibilities. All sterling silver jewellery is plated with rhodium, a high-quality platinum-group metal that enhances the silver tone with a brighter, more luxurious finish. Rhodium also acts as a protective layer, delaying the natural oxidation process that causes sterling silver jewellery to darken.

Our gold-coloured silver jewellery is plated with 14K gold, which matches the gold tone of our stainless steel pieces.

Cubic zirconia is a synthetic stone that resembles a diamond in both appearance and character. The stone is very hard and can be cut to mimic the look of a diamond. The cubic zirconia we use are graded 5A/5A, and each stone is carefully hand-set.

Our imitation pearls are of a higher quality than standard pearl imitations. The pearls are made from nacre shell powder that is compressed and then dipped in a synthetic solution, which gives them durability, weight and lustre. Imitation pearls are not quite as shiny as real pearls but are very resistant to salt water, skin deposits and scratches.

Freshwater pearls are cultivated in lakes by inserting a round nacre bead into a mussel, together with a piece of mantle tissue from another mussel. The mantle tissue forms a so-called pearl sac around the bead, and then layer upon layer of nacre builds up to form a pearl. This process results in cultured freshwater pearls that vary in colour and shape. Edblad’s cultured freshwater pearls are of higher quality, graded 4A/5A.

Natural stones are minerals, rocks or organic materials that can be cut, polished and shaped in many different forms. Sometimes referred to as semi-precious stones, they are widely used in jewellery thanks to their unique colours, textures and symbolic meanings.

Both gemstones and semi-precious stones have long been associated with various energies and healing properties in many cultures, which makes them especially valued in personal jewellery. We use natural stones, for example, in our birthstone collections.

Some of our jewellery features coloured enamel with a glossy, smooth finish. Enamel is created from a transparent glass compound that is heated until it fuses. Different salts and pigments are added to achieve the colours.

Our leather jewellery is made from metal-free tanned leather, certified by the Leather Working Group to ensure sustainable production. The material combines split leather with recycled polyurethane. The Leather Working Group guarantees fair practices, and the material is certified according to the Recycled Blended Claim Standard.

Glass is a durable and versatile material available in many beautiful colours and finishes. We sometimes use recycled glass in our jewellery to create trendy and colourful designs.

The cards on which our jewellery hangs, gift boxes and bags come from our supplier Märkett AB in Borås. The jewellery cards are made of FSC-certified paper and in our boxes the core is made of recycled paper and the cover is partially recycled. Our bags are made from partially recycled paper in a European factory that is powered entirely by solar energy. Our logos and other information on the jewellery cards, boxes and bags are all printed with water-based paint.

Although our jewellery retains its colour over time, the shade may darken slightly depending on your skin type, how often you wear it and how you care for it. To extend the lifespan of your jewellery, gently dry it if exposed to water, sweat or skincare and household products that may contain chemicals.

Silver is a precious metal, softer and more delicate than steel. Even though Edblad’s silver jewellery is plated with a protective layer of rhodium or 14K gold, the silver will naturally oxidise and darken over time. Silver jewellery can be polished to maintain its shine and remove discolouration. Clean with a polishing cloth or with lukewarm water and mild soap, then gently dry with a soft cloth.

Cultured freshwater pearls require extra care. Wipe the pearls with a damp cloth after use to maintain their lustre, but avoid using grease-dissolving agents such as washing-up liquid. Store pearls separately from other jewellery, but not in cotton, as cotton has a drying effect.

Avoid exposing your leather bracelets to moisture; remove it before showering, exercising or in other situations where it may get wet. If it does become wet, let it dry in an airy place. When using perfume, apply it first and let it dry before putting on the bracelet.

Condition the bracelet regularly instead of washing it. Use a transparent leather balm suitable for the purpose. If you must wash it, use hard soap, minimal water, and let it dry thoroughly. Store leather in a dark, dry and dust-free place. Make sure the bracelet is completely dry before placing it in storage.

Metal-free tanned leather may release some colour, especially in the beginning. Reduce this risk by conditioning the bracelet and wiping it thoroughly with a dry cloth. If it should stain textiles, the colour will come out in a normal wash (40°C).
