Product material

Steel

All our jewellery is made of surgical steel, also called 316L. The production of 316L complies with EU environmental protection laws and regulations. The material can be recycled and during the production process minimal waste is generated.

Steel is an alloy of iron, chromium and carbon, and a lower proportion of elements such as nickel and molybdenum. Nickel is allowed to give the jewellery the glossy surface and is so tightly packed in the material that it is nickel-safe according to EU Nickel Directive REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. For us, steel is a durable material that is rarely discolored and is significantly more resistant to scratches than gold and silver. The manufacturer we work with uses steel coming from China.

Gold plating

There are several different types of gold plating and the one we use is 14K gold. 14K gold consists of 58.5% pure gold and 31.5% silver and copper. The thickness of the gold plating also varies, which is measured in micrometers. Our jewellery has 2-3 microns of plating.

The method we use to plate our jewellery is called PVD, short for Physical Vapor Deposition. It is a process where one or more substances are evaporated and then condensed on another surface, such as steel. In order to transport the steam to the surface where it is to be condensed, an electrical voltage is needed between and this process always takes place in a vacuum chamber. The plating that is formed becomes very durable and easy to clean.

Cubic zirconia

Cubic zirconia is a synthetic stone that resembles a diamond, both in appearance and in character. The stone is very hard and it can be ground to mimic a diamond. The cubic zircons we use are rated AAA (out of four) and have been hand-framed.

Crystals

A synthetic crystal with extra metal layers that reflect more light than a cubic zirconia and allows for a wide variety of colors.

Imitation pearls

Imitation pearls are completely round in shape and are synthetically produced. The core is made of glass or plastic and is surrounded by a wrap of mother of pearl.

Cultured freshwater pearls

Freshwater pearls are grown in lakes by placing a round pearl ball inside a clam along with a piece of mantle tissue from another clam. The mantle tissue then forms the so-called pearl sack around what is to become a pearl and then layers upon layer of pearl substance are created. This means that freshwater pearls can vary in color and shape. All of our cultivated freshwater pearls come from China and achieve AAA or AAAA standards (out of five).

Leather

In a few products like Peak Bracelet we use leather. The leather is from cow or buffalo and is certified in accordance with Animal Welfare Policy.

Packaging materials

The cards on which our jewellery hangs, gift boxes and bags come from our supplier Märkett AB in Borås. The jewellery cards are made of FSC-certified paper and in our boxes the core is made of recycled paper and the cover is partially recycled. Our bags are made from partially recycled paper in a European factory that is powered entirely by solar energy. Our logos and other information on the jewellery cards, boxes and bags are all printed with water-based paint.
